Artificial intelligence (AI) is the simulation of human intelligence in machines that are programmed to think and learn like humans. AI can be used to develop systems that can perform tasks that typically require human intelligence, such as visual perception, speech recognition, decision-making, and language translation. These technologies are used in a variety of applications, including self-driving cars, virtual personal assistants, and medical diagnosis systems.
WHY SHOULD I CARE?
In the book Surfing The Tsunami, Dr. Kelsey explains that AI and Automation is already having a huge impact on business and it continues to change rapidly. AI has been affecting the job market and the way data is evolving for some years now. These Automation softwares have been very influential for businesses to analyze complex data and have assisted reducing the time in which is completed.
Automation: Physical Robots and Software Bots
Some of us might picture Robots such as cartoons like "Rosie" from the Jetsons, or maybe even Terminator. Both are actually some what acurate with modern technology and advances.
A common household Robot widely available is the vacuum and mop robot Roomba. For more advances check out this article published last year by Popular Mechanics, "Dyson Is Secretly Building Robots to Perform Your Most Dreaded Household Chores."Other industries with heavy interest in Physical Robots are the logistics and manufacturing industries. This technology has allowed more products to be made, which can lead to more profits. Some examples are Amazon and the Auto industy.
The Military has also been using a form of Robots for years now such as Drones. Boston Dynamics is an example of a company that has been advancing this technology for various industries. But going back to Terminator............those sci-fi movies are becoming some what real? kinda scary if programmed incorrectly! Check out this video:
OK Now let's talk about Bots!!
Software Bots are applications that are created to make a task more efficient.
In the past do you remember using this to do math? .......... (That's a calculator my Gen Z friends! jk)
Now we get to use Excel spreadsheets to do calculations for us. Just type or copy and paste the numbers you need, set up formulas and much quicker for sets of large data. Let's be honest, I use Excel as my calculator....smh (Ah by the way, much easier for those that actually know how to use Excel....but that's another subject for another day).
Here are some other examples of Software Bots:
Siri and Alexa, your email predicting your sentences, shopping assistants, customer service assistance, etc.
